School’s out for the summer! Now’s a great time to get outside and enjoy walking and biking wherever you decide to spend your vacation- especially after our fun Bike to School Month of activities. Looking back on this year’s event, we had a jam packed few weeks of workshops and fun start and end to the month with our event launch and wrap-up ending at Assiniboine Park this year.
Kicking off Bike to School Month, we celebrated at Valley Gardens Middle School alongside local Councillor Jason Schreyer, School Trustee Rod Giesbricht and members of the Winnipeg Police Service with a challenging bike obstacle course. Winnipeg Kids of Mud Bike Club – the Flaming Cheetahs officially demonstrated the course for the race, and afterwards, Vice-Principal Harmacy, Councillor Schreyer and Constable Lisa Allison had the chance to race the obstacle course against the clock and receive a medal from the students.
The fun continued all month with workshops from the W.R.E.N.C.H, Art City and our Bike Blender smoothie bike.
Ending on Clean Air Day, June 7th, we invited all schools to celebrate at Assiniboine Park with a series of kid-friendly, interactive stations and stage shows. Everywhere you looked, there was something fun to participate in, including watching a bike stunt demonstration on stage, dancing with the Winnipeg Youth Movement, trying a unique bike with Freedom Concepts, and decorating your bike with Art City. We were so excited to have so many schools participate over the course of the month, and we can’t wait for next year.
Have a safe and active summer, and see you in October for International Walk to School Month!
