Green Action Centre is pleased to announce the winners of our Crazy for Compost Video Contest.

The contest officially came to on close on Friday, May 9th and our judges have just submitted their results. The decisions were tough and all of our entries were creative and fun to watch. But, having considered the general criteria of the contest and the creativity of the project we selected four winning videos that are showcased below. The video creators will receive $100 in cash prizes!

In no particular order, the winning videos are:

“Crazy for Compost” created by Ingrid White’s Kindergarten Class from Donwood Elementary School

“Cecil Rhodes gets the dirt on composting” created by the Video Club (Samantha Adriano, Emily Donato, Sarah DelaCruz) from Cecile Rhodes School

“Elmwood Composting” created by the Green Giants (Sheldon Baker, Brooke Camplin, Shane Cinq-Mars, Caitlyn Hudson, Sierra Sinclair) from Elmwood School

“Crazy for Compost” created by Angel Laham, Kane Kirton, Trevor Yu from Argyle Alternative High School

Winning schools will receive cash prizes, all equipment and tools for school-wide composting (a value of $1200). In addition, Green Action Centre will guide and support these schools until December 2015 as they work to maintain a successful and effective composting system, including waste audits, necessary resources and presentations to families for home composting.

An honourable mention also goes out to our runners up, whom although they didn’t quite make the cut, we were extremely impressed with the collaboration and creativity that went into making these videos. These schools will be contacted to receive guidance and support for the implementation and improvement of their composting program.

In no particular order, honourable mention goes out to:

“Captain Compost” created by Charmaine Agsalud, John Borja, Megan Esquera from Sisler High School

“Crazy Compost People” created by Fay Sequeira’s students from Casa Montessori and Orff School

We’d like to thank all entrants for participating in the contest. All schools who entered the contest will benefit from Green Action Centre’s support for school-wide composting.

The Composting staff at Green Action Centre would also like to thank our Master Composter volunteers who helped with this video contest: Melissa Fry, Kevin Kehler, Lise Smith, Mani Tougas, Nyree Bridgman, Kristine Askholm, Fernand Saurette. Also, thank you to Christopher Paetkau, Roger Villeneuve for guidance on video requirements and uploads, as well as other Green Action Centre staff who helped with the creation of this project.
