Pride Winnipeg is really excited to make this year’s Festival at The Forks greener but they need some volunteers. They are looking for people with an environmental bent to help out with their expanded Environmental team on Saturday, June 3, and Sunday, June 4. A full description is available on their volunteer page here, but some of the duties include:
- Distributing pocket ashtrays to smokers
- Measuring demand for bicycle parking around the site
- Replacing water jugs (helps us reduce use of bottled water)
- End of festival waste audit
- Collecting garbage and recycling from paired bins (and possibly educating people on proper sorting)
- Collecting compostables (beer cups and internal food scraps
- General site maintenance (litter clean-up)
- Maintaining stock in portable washrooms
If you are comfortable interacting with the public and understand the importance of moving towards more sustainable operation, sign up to volunteer! You can also help Pride Winnipeg identify where they can improve in future years. There is room to grow and Pride Winnipeg hopes that volunteers will enjoy their experience and consider returning. Enviro team volunteers should generally be paired, so let them know if you want to be paired with a specific person on the same shift as you. Volunteers would also be required to attend one of three orientations, held at U of W, on:
- Wednesday, May 24, 7-9pm
- Sunday, May 28, 3-5pm
- Monday, May 29, 7-9pm
