This year in Manitoba, Sustainability Month is helping to create a culture of sustainability in our province. It is a month-long series of events, including celebrating our successes, sharing best practices, and building capacity for a more sustainable Manitoba.
Across the province, events are taking place that aim to inspire and empower Manitobans to lead more sustainable lives. You can expect to attend events and activities like talks, book readings, workshops, theatre performances, music concerts, art exhibits, food markets, and more!
How you can participate in Celebrating Sustainability Month:
• Check out the Sustainability Month Website
• Get Social: Check out Sustainability Month on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest
• Attend an Event: View the calendar and pick an event to go to, or host an event of your own (email: mesdwg@gmail.com)
• Tell a Friend: Let people know that October is Celebrating Sustainability Month
Green Action Centre will be honouring Sustainability Month with several different activities being offered throughout the community. Attend a free composting presentation during Waste Reduction Week (October 19-25), join us at the Second Chance Market and donate or buy some gentle used items that we can sell or auction off.
Get Caught in the Act! Green Action Centre staff will be out and about throughout Waste Reduction Week looking to giveaway prizes to those caught doing something good for the environment – all you have to do is go green and get caught!
For schools and teachers, sign up your school for iWALK (International Walk to School Month) or have your school participate in Waste Reduction Road. If you’re looking for an activity to earn your school cash for recycling cell phones, check out the annual Recycle My Cell Student Competition.
And finally, to close the month with a bang, remember to think green this Halloween and consider some eco-friendly ways to celebrate this sweet holiday.
