What to do with depleted batteries in Manitoba?
Batteries contain toxic metals including lead, mercury and silver, which can leak into the environment, polluting soil and water. Canadians buy 550 million batteries every year. 90% of them end up in landfills.
Some retailers, such as Mountain Equipment Co-op, Future Shop and Best Buy, have take-back programs. If your retailer does not have such a program, tell the store manager that battery recycling is a priority for you and your family.
