The moment you have all been waiting for…
the results from the 1st Annual Pumpkin Drop!
Over 24,000 kg or 53,000 lbs of pumpkins were collected!
Of the 240,041 kg of pumpkins produced in Manitoba, we diverted approximately 10% from the landfill!
That’s equal to 21,600 kg of CO2e emissions OR the carbon sequestered by 357 tree seedlings grown for 10 years!
993 Winnipeggers experienced the thrill of throwing pumpkins off a parkade!
$831.25 in donations was graciously accepted and will be put towards compost collection service for a local non-profit. Updates soon to come! (If you are still keen to make a donation, visit our Canada Helps page)
Where did the pumpkins go?
9,000 kg went to Kismet Creek Farm
14,000 kg went to Sustainable Organic Solutions to be composted. Their journey will be documented and shared so you can see the pumpkins return to nutrient-rich living soil!
Approximately 1,000 kg went to other local farms who helped themselves to the drop off locations. Which we are completely ok with! Glad we could share the pumpkin wealth. (Was this you? Let’s talk about plans for next year)
What’s next?
We have already started planning next year’s drop to make it bigger and better. Leave a comment telling us what you loved and what we can improve upon.
Thank YOU for participating. Your support & encouragement made this event a huge success!
