Winter has come, which means that our annual outdoor winter event is right around the corner!
Coming February 2025, Green Action Centre will host its fourteenth annual Jack Frost Challenge! During TWO weeks, from Sunday February 9th, to Saturday February 22nd, we want Manitobans to walk, roll, ski, skate, and cycle as part of a team or solo. Everyone has the chance to win prizes and contribute to a more sustainable Manitoba.
What is Jack Frost Challenge?
Jack Frost Challenge is an annual challenge that invites participants to engage in sustainable, physical activity (including transportation) for one week. The ultimate goal of the challenge is to log 130 kms of activity, as a solo participant or part of a team. We encourage folks to participate in leisure activities’ but also incorporate this challenge into their routine by actively and sustainably commuting to work. It is our hope that this event will inspire us to make sustainable commutes all year round, and to appreciate the natural cycle of the environment that we wish to protect.
Types of activities you can log include:
- Walking & running
- Biking
- Shoveling snow
- Building a snowperson
- Skating
- Skiing
- Tobogganing & sledding
How do I sign up for Jack Frost Challenge?
Jack Frost Challenge is going to look different this year as we migrate over to Green Action Centre’s own carpooling platform, Go Manitoba. Registering is one easy step: visit gomb.ca and create a free profile today. This can be done on your laptop/desktop and connected to your smartphone app after your profile is created. You can create a profile all year long, and all trips made during Jack Frost Challenge week will count towards your challenge goals so long as they match the activities above. In January, details will be released on how to create a team from your existing profile for all challenge events. Please note that if you use the old platform only, you will NOT be eligible for any prizes related to this challenge.
Can my child participate?
Yes! Green Action Centre hosts a smaller event alongside the larger event called Jack Frost for Kids. It is specifically for parents and teachers to sign up their kids or students. There are specific kid-friendly activities and prizes. Sign up is done through a google form rather than through Go Manitoba and total kilometres are tracked on a spreadsheet. All GoManitoba users must be able to create their own account, so if you have young children or students, we recommend going this route instead of our primary challenge. Registration for Jack Frost for Kids will open in January 2025 and will run during the first week of the main challenge, from February 9th to 15th.
