Now that our 1st annual Bike to School Month has ended, it is a great time to share all of the positive workshops, events and activities that have been going on in the community.
We were able to host countless events and giveaway some amazing prizes this year to many deserving schools. Thank you to the City of Winnipeg, Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI), Bikes&Beyond, CAA, Mountain Equipment Co-op, the Manitoba Children’s Museum, The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Dave Elmore for donating the great prizes!
One of the amazing grand prizes was a Bike Powered School Concert. Congrats to Luxton School for winning this year!
Looking back at Bike to School Month 2015:
Over the past month, the W.R.E.N.C.H. has been going to schools to hold workshops around Winnipeg on bike skills, repair and safety. They were able to reach 7 schools across the city to teach others their mad bike skills as part of Bike to School Month!
The very talented bike stunt riders took their show to Ecole Lansdowne at the beginning of May to amaze the students and show them just how fun biking can be! From jumping on/off ramps and boxes, their show is always entertaining from start to finish and we’re lucky they were able to celebrate the month’s events with us this year.
Many schools have also registered through MPI for their Bike Rodeo Workshop on student cycling safety. These workshops give students a chance to learn bike safety skills and then take their knowledge and apply it to an outdoor course. Bike Rodeos have been happening all around the Province to reach as many schools and programs as possible to ensure safe young cyclists.
If that wasn’t enough excitement, we have also been going around to schools to bring our unique and super fun Bike Blender to make fruit smoothies for everyone! Everyone has had a blast so far making smoothies and we hope to continue this with schools next year.
To keep the fun going, please sign up your school for International Walk to School Month in October 2015!
We would love to know, what did your school do to celebrate Bike to School Month?
