Assiniboine Credit Union, Manitoba Hydro and Red River College were all recognized by the Globe and Mail’s Canada’s Greenest Employers for their environmental initiatives.
Assiniboine Credit Union was recognized for their new LEED certified geo-thermal branch location, their Sustainable Community Grants as well as their Greening your home initiative in partnership with the Manitoba Chapter of the Canada Green Building Council and the Winnipeg real estate association.
Manitoba Hydro was recognized for its state of the art Green Headquarters building on Portage avenue as well as its shift to more energy efficient fleet vehicles. Significantly, many of the green initiatives have been employee driven, including its recycling, composting and office energy conservation programs.
Red River College has been a leader in sustainability programs for both its students and staff. The Sustainability Office has led important programs recently including work on waste reduction, bike promotion and climate change. The campus has also invested in energy conservation and geo-thermal.
Congratulations to all the winners across Canada. Green Action Centre looks forward to continuing to work with these and other Manitoba green companies.
