Last week, the French school division (Division scolaire franco-manitobain) decided not to apply cosmetic lawn pesticides anymore on their school grounds. This school division has a total of 24 schools, two-thirds of which are located in rural regions. (The only other Manitoba school division that we are aware of with a ban on cosmetic pesticides is the Winnipeg School Division.) The Province had a public consultation from June to October to seek public opinion on cosmetic lawn pesticide and released the document Play it Safe. To find out more information on this important issue, you can start by visiting Cosmetic Pesticide Ban Manitoba.
