Thanks to all of our Commuter Challenge 2024 participants!


The results are in for the 2024 Commuter Challenge! Though it’s been a rainy beginning to the summer, and many participants had to factor in the weather, (we hear you – we wish we could control the weather too 😉), Manitobans stepped up to the challenge for their sustainable commutes!

This year, Manitoba had:

  • 152 workplaces participate
  • 2,618 individuals registered
  • 38,183 kg C02 avoided
  • and 206,190 kilometres of sustainable commutes logged!

Grand Prize Winners

This year, our grand prize winners were chosen at random based on the met criteria of being in the top 10% of all kilometres logged, AND by logging at least four trips during the course of Commuter Challenge.

Congratulations to Rose with Manitoba Hydro and Calvin with Access Credit Union for winning this year’s Commuter Challenge grand prize! Rose and Calvin have won the following prizes:

  • An annual transit pass sponsored by Winnipeg Transit + two day passes sponsored by the WAG-Qaumajug
  • Two any-day passes sponsored by Winnipeg Folk Fest + two day passes sponsored by the WAG-Qaumajug

Individual Prize Winners

Prizes weren’t just for those participating at their workplace! These prizes were eligible for those who were not registered under workplaces (as individual / unaffiliated) and logged in the top 25% of kilometres.

Congratulations to Suzanne and Rachel for winning this year’s Commuter Challenge Individual Prizes! Suzanne and Rachel have won the following prizes:

  • An annual family membership sponsored by Fort Whyte Alive + two day passes sponsored by the WAG-Qaumajug
  • A $100 gift card from Jardins St-Leon Gardens+ two day passes sponsored by the WAG-Qaumajug

Team Prize Winners

Small workplaces, friends, coworkers, family and faith groups were eligible to sign up as a team. A winner was chosen from a team that logged in the top 25% of kilometres for all small groups and logged at least 4 total commutes for the week.

Congratulations to Janna, Giselle, Kristin, Bryan, and Brian from Families Forward for winning this year’s Commuter Challenge Team Prize! This team has won the following prizes:

  • 5 day passes sponsored by the WAG-Qaumajug
  • 5 gaming passes sponsored by Across the Board Cafe + a $100 gift card to enjoy food and beverage while playing

Workplace Prize Winners

This year, all workplaces in the top 25% of employee participation rate were entered into a random draw to. We wanted our workplace coordinators to connect with as many employees as possible, no matter the total kilometres logged or trips, to have everyone consider sustainable transportations on their daily commutes.

We want to give a special shoutout to the following workplaces for their awesome incentives, communication, and dedication to environmental sustainability:

  • Mennonite Central Committee Manitoba finished with a 93% organization participation rate and logged 2,422 total kilometres – that averages out as 82km per person, or 15kg of C02 avoided per person!
  • HTFC Planning and Design offered engaging inter-office challenges and increased their employee participation rate from 45.7% to 70.6%!
  • Manitoba Hydro had the most participants out of any registered workplace in Canada at a whopping 987 employees, increasing from their previous year participation by 12%!

Our Workplace Prize winner for 2024 is Opportunities for Employment! Special shoutout to Elizabeth Haacke for rising up to the workplace coordinator role, creating an awesome company culture committed to earning a 100% participation rate – which they achieved!

Opportunities for Employment will receive the following prizes for their workplace:

  • 10 family day passes sponsored by Fort Whyte Alive (valued at $480)
  • 15 day passes sponsored by the WAG-Qaumajug (valued at $270)
  • Private Trivia Show sponsored and hosted by Tremendous Trivia Manitoba (valued at $400-500) – additional prizes provided to multiple winning teams! (Includes a $25 gift certificate sponsored by St. Norbert Farmers Market)
  • Courtesy Bike Blender rental provided by Green Action Centre (valued at $300)
  • A custom framed certificate for your workplace champions!

“Work from Home Winner” Prize Winners

All Commuter Challenge participants who logged telecommute hours had a chance to win these prizes.

This year’s prize winners were Grace with Manitoba Hydro and Michael S. with Manitoba Hydro! Grace and Michael have both won one of the following:

  • $50 gift card from Pollock’s Hardware + two day passes sponsored by the WAG-Qaumajug
  • $50 gift card from Desk Hero + two day passes sponsored by the WAG-Qaumajug

“Walking Warrior” Prize Winners

All Commuter Challenge participants who logged walking kilometres had a chance to win these prizes.

This year’s prize winners were Shannon from IG Wealth Management and Jayson with Epp Siepman Engineering! Shannon and Jayson have both won one of the following:

  • $50 gift card sponsored by Nonsuch Brewing + two day passes sponsored by the WAG-Qaumajug
  • $50 gift card sponsored by Clementine Cafe + two day passes sponsored by the WAG-Qaumajug

“Cycling Superstar” Prize Winners

All Commuter Challenge participants who logged cycling kilometres had a chance to win these prizes.

This year’s prize winners were Arielle from Klinic Community Health and Jon from Manitoba Hydro! Arielle and Jon have both won one of the following:

  • $50 gift card from The Beer Can + two day passes sponsored by the WAG-Qaumajug
  • Prize package sponsored by Olympia Cycle + two day passes sponsored by the WAG-Qaumajug

“Transit Trooper” Prize Winners

All Commuter Challenge participants who logged public transit kilometres had a chance to win these prizes.

This year’s prize winners were Brandi from Manitoba Museum and Michael from Wawanesa Insurance! Brandi and Michael have both won one of the following:

  • Summer Reading Package sponsored by Great Plains Press (valued at $70) + two day passes sponsored by the WAG-Qaumajug
  • Movie Night Out for 2 sponsored by Cinematheque (valued at $50) + two day passes sponsored by the WAG-Qaumajug

“Go Manitoba Guru” Prize Winners

In addition to logging their commutes on commuterchallenge.ca, we also encouraged Manitobans to log their sustainable commutes on gomb.ca. Go Manitoba helps participants calculate their personal impact, connect with local mentors and find carpool opportunities. Our winners for this year have been randomly selected from all participants who logged sustainable commutes during the Commuter Challenge.

This year’s prize winners were Maureen with Parks Canada and Roxanne with Manitoba Hydro! Maureen and Roxanne have both won one of the following:

  • $100 gift card sponsored by Assiniboine Park Conservancy + two day passes sponsored by the WAG-Qaumajug
  • $100 gift card purchased from Modo Yoga + two day passes sponsored by the WAG-Qaumajug

“Beyond Winnipeg” Prize Winners

All Commuter Challenge participants who logged ANY sustainable transportation outside of Winnipeg were eligible to win these prizes.

This year’s prize winners were Amanda from Manitoba Hydro in Selkirk and Trevor from Manitoba Hydro in Gillam! Amanda and Trevor have won one of the following:
