Where?
CF Polo Park 2nd Level southeast parkade
This event is free to attend!
What to bring?
dress for the weather and bring your Jack-O-Laterns! Make sure any inorganic materials are removed such as candles, nails and any other things you may have decorated your pumpkin with. Paint is alright!
Of the 80,000 tonnes of pumpkins produced in Canada, 66% are sold to consumers; often used for carving and are never eaten. Without intervention, this is an immense amount of organic waste destined for the landfill.
Furthermore, every year Compost Winnipeg has great difficulty accommodating all the pumpkins on our regular collection routes due to the space and volume they take up. This year we are trying this fun and unique approach to the problem while bringing attention to the importance of composting.
What else can I do with my pumpkins?
- Eat them! Bake a pie, make creamy pumpkin pasta, pumpkin cookies…the list goes on!
- Compost them in your backyard compost bin
- Add them to you leaf and year waste for collection
- Bring them to the Pumpkin drop
- Bring them to a community food waste drop off location

Wish there were community drop offs!
Hi there!
Unfortunately we did not have capacity to manage the drop off locations this year. The good news is there are permanent community compost drop off locations now all over the city. You can find the location closest to you on the City of Winnipeg Website.
Do you still have the community drop off locations this year as well? Where are they? Also there is no Facebook event to share would love to share this with more with others.
Hi Dawn,
We do not have community drop off locations for this specific event this year. However, There are now food waste drop off locations around the city where you can bring them. You can find the locations on the City Of Winnipeg Website. Compost Winnipeg made a Facebook Post about the event that you can share!
