For a 4th year in a row, Compost Winnipeg facilitated a fun and impactful event to divert food waste. 1,042 people came to Polo Park on November 2nd to drop their pumpkins off the parkade and into the Compost Winnipeg truck!Β

Compost Winnipeg made an effort to educate Winnipeggers on the importance of keeping food waste out of landfills and highlighted the hierarchy of food waste. There are many ways to divert food waste, and the best way to do that is to 1. feed people first, then 2. feed animals, and finally 3. compost the rest.

πŸŽƒ 1,657 pumpkins (7,057 kg) were collected at the event!

πŸ„ 403 of those went to the Little Red Barn Animal Sanctuary (1,100kg)

πŸƒ 1,254 pumpkins were taken for composting (5,957kg)

πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ 1,042 guests experienced the thrill of throwing pumpkins off a parkade, our largest turnout to date!

βš–οΈ So far, Compost Winnipeg has also collected 7,725kg of pumpkins from 18 community food waste drop-off locations

πŸš› 14,782kg of pumpkins diverted from landfill thus far
