MEIA Cleantech Conference 2025 | A Recap

This past Tuesday, staff from Green Action Centre attended the Manitoba Environmental Industry Association Cleantech Conference. This annual conference at the RBC convention Centre brings together businesses, industry leaders and members of the MEIA student chapter to learn about new technologies, network and discover new environemtnal mitigation initiatives.
The theme this year was "driving change through water and energy solutions". The keynote speakers this year were The Water Brothers, real life brothers Alex and Tyler Mifflin, who are filmmakers inspired by their love of nature. They shared lessons, stories and shared several clips from their tv show. They also shared how they liked to communicate ideas through fun segments to reach larger audiences.
The rest of the conference featured a short address and discussion with the MC from the president of the Water Agency, breakout sessions throughout the afternoon and a mixer to end the day. Green Action Centre also participated in the tradeshow to share our work with conference goers. We had great conversations with folks from around Canada!

Here you'll find testimony from each Green Action Centre staff about their day at the confernce
This was my first time attending the MEIA Cleantech Conference and I enjoyed every minute of it! Interacting and connecting with so many like-minded professionals who are leading transformative change in our province was very impactful. One of my favourite presentations focused on a greenhouse in Dauphin utilizing industry-leading technology to grow tomatoes in an efficient and sustainable manner. I can't wait for next year! - Claudia
I really enjoyed getting to hear from researchers and scientists who are spearheading some really exciting projects throughout Manitoba. I learned a ton about different methods for remediating contaminated sites, as well as strategies for more effectively treating our wastewater. It was really encouraging to hear industry leaders talk about the urgent need to address water pollution, particularly in Lake Winnipeg, and emphasize that this work must be done in partnership with Indigenous Communities. I look forward to seeing the positive impact that these projects could have on our province! - Lilja
While at MEIA, I was able to attend presentations from a variety of different disciplines that intersected with law, science, engineering, and activism. It was promising to see so many people across disciplines working towards a better future for our climate. I work at the local level to promote sustainable transportation, the most impactful connections for me were made at the tradeshow tables. I was able to connect with several local entrepreneurs like Elm Natural Builders Ltd and Little Greenhouse That Could. I was inspired by the energy and passion of these business owners, who are using their creativity, ingenuity, and sustainable practices to yield positive environmental impacts in our day to day lives. Scaling up small environmental impacts will be critical to supporting a Net Zero future, and it was refreshing to meet so many people committed to sustainable practices in our community. - Johanna
This was my second year at MEIA so I knew what to expect. This year, I spent more time trying to connect with others to better understand the scope of environmental industry in Canada. I really enjoyed a breakout session on Holistic Environmental Impact Assessment, presented by two staff of Narratives inc. It was refreshing as some of the breakouts can be confusing if you are not familiar with the particular industry being presented on. Lilja and I also sat in on one given by the CEO of Artic Gateway Group. He discussed future plans for the expansion of the Churchill port, which as interesting but also important to hear about as it will be imperative that if this project ever takes place, that it is done in a way that minimally disturbs the delicate local ecosystem and does little to disturb the community. I was able to connect with someone afterwards who had similar concerns to me and it was nice to chat. Finally, the photo booth was pretty awesome! - Ariel
