Sustainable Transportation

Commuter Challenge

Join us for a national, week-long challenge that encourages Canadians to choose active and sustainable modes of transportation

This challenge is all about promoting sustainable travel options that benefit people and the planet: walking, running, wheeling, cycling, rollerblading, public transit, carpooling, and telecommuting. Join the challenge with a team of coworkers or friends, or participate solo-- either way it's a fun way to push yourself to commute more sustainably!

It's easy to participate! Just create an account on GoManitoba and start logging your sustainable commutes. The more sustainably you commute, the more chances you have to win some great prizes!

In 2026, the Commuter Challenge is running from May 31st to June 6th.

Why Participate

Cut down your carbon footprint

Commuting by car is the largest single source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Manitoba. GHG emissions are the leading cause of climate change and air pollution.

Move and stay active

Less than half of all Manitobans get enough physical activity. Using sustainable transportation allows people to incorporate physical activity into their daily routines.

Save time and money

The average cost to own and operate a vehicle can range from $8,500 – $11,500 or higher each year based on the typical 18,000 km driven. Choose alternative modes to save money.

Take the Challenge!

Commuter Challenge is now hosted on the GoManitoba platform.
