Lilja has a bachelor’s degree in history (with a minor in entomology), from the University of Manitoba. In 2025, she completed a masters degree at Trent University, where she focused on environmental history. Lilja is particularly interested in exploring the ways that humans’ understandings of, and relationships with the natural world have changed over time, and she believes that this knowledge provides a critical foundation for the environmental learning and unlearning that is needed in the present. She is deeply fascinated by insects, and passionate about helping people recognize their ecological importance. If she’s not at work, you can find Lilja caught up in her latest sewing project, reading a good book, or crouched down on the sidewalk looking at a cool bug.
