Who We Are:
Green Action Centre is an environmental, non-profit organization based in Winnipeg and serving Manitoba. We are a registered charity, governed by an elected board of directors and supported by a core group of passionate, dedicated staff. We promote greener living through environmental education and encourage practical green solutions for households, workplaces, schools, and communities. Our primary areas of focus are green commuting, composting and waste reduction, sustainable living, and resource conservation. We also run a social enterprise, Compost Winnipeg, which collects commercial and residential organic waste in Winnipeg. We are located in the heart of downtown. Our office is located on Treaty 1 territory, the ancestral lands of Anishinaabeg, Ininew, Anishininiwag, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and the homeland of the Métis Nation.
The Position:
The Waste Reduction Outreach Coordinator plays a key role in strengthening and expanding GAC’s volunteer and community partnerships to increase our impact across Manitoba. This position supports the growth of the Master Composter Volunteer network, builds collaborative relationships with community organizations and environmental partners, and helps broaden GAC’s reach in composting and waste reduction education and engagement.
We are seeking someone who enjoys a diverse workload, working with volunteers and community partners, and taking initiative to build systems and relationships that enhance collective impact. The successful candidate will be comfortable balancing coordination, outreach, event logistics, and communications while contributing to a growing and evolving program.
This position reports directly to the Waste Reduction Team Lead and works collaboratively with the Waste Reduction Program Coordinators, Office Coordinator, Marketing & Communications Coordinator, and other program staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Master Composter Volunteer Program Leadership
- Lead the management, growth, and ongoing development of the Master Composter Volunteer network, including recruitment, engagement, and recognition
- Plan and facilitate annual volunteer appreciation and networking events, and continuing education opportunities
- Develop and distribute a regular Master Composter e-newsletter
- Highlight and showcase volunteer impact and contributions
- Lead preparation and delivery of the annual Master Composter course
- Develop and implement a volunteer re-certification system to ensure continued engagement and program quality
- Coordinate volunteer placements and serve as liaison between volunteers and partner organizations
- Maintain accurate volunteer records and track participation, hours, and engagement metrics
Community Outreach & Partnership Development
- Identify and coordinate outreach opportunities (schools, community organizations, etc.) to increase participation in GAC programming
- Build and maintain partnerships with NGOs, businesses, institutions, and community groups
- Facilitate cross-sector collaboration to align services, expand impact, and minimize duplication of programming
- Coordinate logistics and outreach for regular ENGO meetings
- Create and maintain a database of partners, volunteers, and clients
Event & Program Support
- Coordinate logistics for events GAC attends or hosts
- Create general social media content promoting workshops and events
- Assist with adult sustainability workshops, rural workshops, and waste audits
- Other duties as assigned
Who You Are:
You’re passionate about environmental sustainability and excited about building relationships that create meaningful impact. You enjoy working with volunteers, community groups, and partner organizations, and you’re motivated by helping people connect, collaborate, and take action.
You’re organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple moving pieces at once — from coordinating events to maintaining databases to communicating with partners. You take initiative, follow through on commitments, and don’t require close supervision to keep projects moving forward.
You’re someone who sees the bigger picture and understands that strong systems, thoughtful outreach, and collaboration are essential to growing community impact.
Qualifications we’re looking for include:
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and Canva
- Familiarity with the nonprofit sector
- Knowledge of local sustainability and environmental issues in Manitoba
- Experience working with volunteers or coordinating community programs
- Experience with partnership development and working with diverse communities
- Experience planning events or coordinating logistics
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Comfort with public speaking and facilitation
- Experience facilitating multi-stakeholder meetings or sector collaborations
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
The following qualifications are not necessary, but would be considered great assets:
- Post-secondary education in environmental studies, community development, nonprofit management, communications, education, or a related field
- Knowledge of waste management programs, infrastructure, and environmental policy in Manitoba
- Experience developing or maintaining Customer Relations Management systems or partner databases
- Experience coordinating training programs or adult education courses
- Ability to speak and write in French or other languages

Physical Demands & Other Requirements
- A valid Class 5 driver's license is required
- Ability to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Comfortable working in an open office environment
- Able to work evenings and weekends as required
- Willing to travel as required
