Reporting: This position reports to and takes direction from the Climate Action Team (CAT) Director of Programs and Strategy.

Remuneration: $30 per hour, 35 hours per week. Staff also receive a fully subsidized Winnipeg Transit Eco-Pass, or equivalent value for cycling or walking, as part of Green Action Centre’s “Active Transportation Benefit” policy as well as a Health & Benefits program after 3 months.

Alongside Climate Action Team staff and contractors, the Program Operations Coordinator will help build momentum for climate action in Manitoba through supporting an effective, high-functioning team.

About Climate Action Team:  Climate Action Team (CAT) is a coalition of environmental organizations in Manitoba working together to envision, investigate, and promote a road to climate resilience in our province. Our work aims to advance climate solutions through policy research, organizing, coalition building, and creative communications. Partner organizations include Green Action Centre, Climate Change Connection, Wilderness Committee Manitoba, Manitoba Energy Justice Coalition, and the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives - Manitoba. Climate Action Team staff are employed through the coalition’s charitable agent, the Green Action Centre. 

The Role & Responsibilities 

We need someone who is passionate, positive and extremely capable to help us engage Manitobans in an effort to build a powerful climate movement. As Program Operations Coordinator, you will work with the Director of Programs and Strategy, other Climate Action Team staff, coalition representatives, and other identified project stakeholders to coordinate, implement, monitor, and report on activities. 

More specifically, the Program Operations Coordinator will: 

  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Programs and Strategy as well as partners, community stakeholders, schools, consultants, industry specialists, government, and others.
  • Assist with implementation of program activities across program streams (communications, policy, outreach), as needed and based on availability.
  • Work with the Director of Programs and Strategy to track and organize CAT activities in a project management system. 
  • Help to organize CAT data, including file management, fiscal documents and materials, and volunteer and supporter data.
  • Help plan and deliver Road to Resilience presentations and community events.
  • Support overall management of the CAT budget. Facilitate and track day-to-day financial transactions, and help develop and track the operating budget throughout the year.
  • Collect and process invoices from contractors, ensuring payments are made on time and financials are updated regularly.
  • Provide assistance to the Community Engagement Coordinator as needed, to support relationship building and outreach events.
  • Support with maintenance and updates of CAT’s website.
  • Assist with fundraising and reporting to funders, when applicable.
  • Participate in bi-weekly staff/contractor meetings.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Urban Planning or other related field, along with 2 years of project management experience or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience with partnership development and working collaboratively, specifically at the community level.
  • Strong computer skills including, at minimum, Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Experience with WordPress and graphic design programs such as InDesign is also desirable.
  • Strong familiarity and skills with social media platforms and communications campaigns.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. Able to handle multiple projects concurrently, multi-task, conform to shifting priorities, demands and tight timelines.
  • Strong communication skills and able to communicate clearly, and negotiate issues with a broad range of audiences including industry professionals, internal and external stakeholders, and in various cultural and political settings.
  • Experience working with Indigenous and rural communities and advancing Truth and Reconciliation is an asset.
  • Excellent written and spoken skills in English are required, including analytical and report-writing capability and strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work both in a self-directed manner and collaboratively with other staff and stakeholders.
  • Able to plan, organize and carry out public engagement such as presentations and events.
  • Able to work comfortably in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions

  • Comfortable working in an open office environment (with the option to work half time remotely). Requires significant time at a desk and on a computer.
  • Light physical labor such as transporting pop up displays, meeting materials, hand-outs, art supplies, etc.
  • Regular office hours Monday to Friday, with ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
  • Willing to travel locally within Manitoba, valid driver’s license an asset.
