Green Your #Giving Tuesday – Give back to the Environment November 28

Tuesday, November 28 is Giving Tuesday in Canada and across many parts of the world.

Giving Tuesday was originally created by a group of NGO’s, including Canadahelps.org as a counterpoint to Black Friday (the busiest day of the shopping season), and ‘Cyber Monday’. It’s easy to get swept up in all of the spending this time of year, but it’s important to remember that there are many ways to give.

Giving Tuesday is a day where charities, companies, and individuals join together to share commitments, rally for causes, and stand in solidarity with others. We see this as a welcome addition to the dialogue on what the holidays are really about. If this resonates with you, you may wish to donate to Green Action Centre, or to another hard-working charity in Manitoba. We need and appreciate your support, and we’ve worked tirelessly to earn it!

“We have two days that are good for the economy. Now we have a day that is good for the community too.”

– Giving Tuesday’s website.

By making a donation or becoming a Green Action Centre member you help keep the climate issue front and center in Manitoba. Green Action Centre focuses on the achievable things Manitobans can do to green their lives. With your help, we have been able to accomplish a lot, including being a powerful voice for the development of composting and championing sustainable transportation efforts in the province.

Here at Green Action Centre we also want to share some of the many ways of giving that are less harmful to the environment, so you can feel good about giving! Here are a few great ideas to help you keep the holidays as eco-conscious as possible.

Other ways to give back this season:

Find ways to reduce your waste. If you’re wondering where to start, we’ve written hundreds of blog posts about waste reduction. Click here to learn more.

Choose sustainable commuting options. This includes walking, biking, bussing, carpooling, and more. Wondering how to get started? Check out GoManitoba.

You could also donate non-perishable items to a local food bank, or a gently used bicycle to a community bike shop.

Share important posts and messages from causes you care about. Educate your friends and family about why caring for the environment is important. Or practice random acts of kindness and help someone in the community. Research shows that helping others makes you feel better too, so it’s a win for everyone!
