Green ways to get to Folk Festival

A few years ago, I started taking the bus to the Winnipeg Folk Festival. At the end of the evening, the bus was only half full yet there was a sea of red tail lights of cars leaving the massive parking lot at Birds Hill Park.

But the tide is starting to turn.

First, a group bike ride to the site was organized, which continues to grow each year. The cap was expanded to 300 riders this year, yet registration is close to full. It’s a fun ride, broken into three groups pedalling at different speeds, plus participants get first dibs in the festival campground!

Second, the good folks who organize the festival arranged for FREE transit service starting last year and a greatly expanded schedule. (Photo: Sean McGillvray). And now this year, just show your wristband, access pass or day ticket and ride free on any Winnipeg Transit bus to connect with stops along the FESTIVAL EXPRESS route. Buses depart from Memorial and York every half hour, with stops along Graham and at City Hall. The bus is the easiest and quickest way to get to the festival site. Check out all the details here.

If neither of these options work for you, fill up your car with friends and family also heading to the site. Happy Folking!
