Earth Day 2011

On April 22nd, 2011, millions of Canadians will join the world to celebrate Earth Day in order to focus on environmental solutions for the present and future.

In Winnipeg, there are several events people can participate in to recognize this important day including the following:

Description: Students from Pembina Trails School Division will amaze and entertain you with their cinematic skills. They are committed to walking softly on the earth, and as such, have produced a series of short films including Captain Planet and Plastic Killers.

Description: Celebrate Earth Day at Oak Hammock! Join our interpreters for guided tours of the marsh to see just how important wetlands are for the health of the planet. Join a compost tour or a green building tour. Learn how to keep your water healthy and take home recipes for green cleaning products.

Event: The Heart of the Boreal: An Evening with Maude Barlow

Description: Maude Barlow is the National Chairperson of the Council of Canadians and she chairs the board of Washington-based Food and Water Watch. She is also an executive member of the San Francisco-based International Forum on Globalization and a Councilor with the Hamburg-based World Future Council. Maude is the recipient of eight honorary doctorates as well as many awards, including the 2005 Right Livelihood Award (known as the “Alternative Nobel”).
