Dust off your bikes, it’s time for a Rodeo!

The students at Woodlawn School tuned their bikes and dusted off their helmets when Manitoba Public Insurance held a Bike Rodeo as part of the Active and Safe Routes to School Pilot Project! Students had two dates to participate to accommodate all the interested kids with the Grades 4 and 5 on May 11th and Grades 2 and 3 on May 13th.

The aim of the bike rodeo was to educate students about bicycle safety as responsible road users, all while having fun, of course. Each day started with a half hour presentation for the grades involved on those days and then each grade was slotted a half hour session on the outdoor course. Each student brought their own bike to school to ride through the outdoor obstacle course or, if students did not bring a bike, they were allowed to go through the obstacle course using the correct hand signals on foot.  By combining education and fun activities, this bike rodeo made biking a more appealing and safe option for these kids.
