On October 15, Green Action Centre completed the training of 18 new Master Composters. This new group joins over 100 currently active Master Composters in helping to promote composting in Manitoba and extending our outreach into the community.

The course was offered through a partnership with the Community Lead Emissions Reduction Program (CLER) of the Riverview/Lord Roberts Community Centres. Master Composters receive a free in-depth composting course in return for a 30 hour volunteer commitment. This Master Composter course also included a number of presentations by local experts and some by current Master Composters. We toured the Riverview Lord Roberts community garden and saw their composting facilities, including their new shredder.  We also had a tour of Mountain Equipment Coop’s composting toilet facilities.

We even had an opportunity to start the training for our youngest Master Composter, Daisy. As you can see she was very attentive and she was quite vocal too. When it came time for practicing her presentation skills, Daisy mother Jennefer had the perfect prop.

Special thanks to the Riverview Lord Roberts CLER program for their support of composting as well as our guest presenters and helpers, Linda Olson, Bruce Berry, Karla Zubrycki, Shelley Walker, Christine Schroeder, Dale Overton, Tyler Guerrieri, Melissa Dupuis, Jennifer Sparling, Lydia Carpenter, and Darryl Drohomerski from the City of Winnipeg.

Green Action Center welcomes our new Master Composters and hopes that this is the beginning a long and mutually beneficial relationship.
