Are you a fruit grower with extra fruit? Or someone who is wanting to do some fruit picking?
Fruit Share, based in Winnipeg, MB, pairs volunteer pickers with fruit growers to ensure that fruit crops are picked and eaten before falling to the ground and rotting. Join their online community called Fruit Connect to plan or attend a fruit pick.
What happens to all the fruit once it’s picked?
- 1/3 goes to the fruit growers
- 1/3 goes to the volunteer picker(s)
- 1/3 is donated to a community organization
Have extra fruit that’s already picked? Fruit Share has also compiled a list of organizations in Winnipeg who are always looking for fruit donations. Click here to see where you can drop-off your excess fruit.
We have a large Goodland apple tree with many apples. Can you help with apple pickers. We live in Southland Park across from the mint. The apples are delicious for eating and baking. Thank you.
I have a huge rhubarb plant that needs to be plucked. Could you use it?
Hi Sara, I’m a bit uncertain whether the Fruit Share program is still happening. If I recall they took a break in 2020 due to the pandemic and don’t know what the plan is for 2021. We will reach out to them directly and let you know if we hear back about the current status of the program.
