Bike Week Portage la Prairie 2017 (Saturday, June 10 to Friday 16) is a week of bicycle events for everyone. Find info here. Events are free unless indicated. Organized by the Portage Active Transportation Committee.

SATURDAY JUNE 10 – 10AM to 1PM
BIKE WEEK KICK OFF – STRIDE PLACE
Rotary, Lions, Big Brothers & Big Sisters, ROK. West parking lot of Stride Place. Bike decorating, bike parade, bike repair, scavenger hunt and more! Fundraiser BBQ for CancerCare at MNP fair building on “the island.”

SUNDAY JUNE 11 – 1PM to 2PM
BIKE AND YOGA IN THE PARK
Meet at the bandstand by the play structure at Island Park – bring your yoga mat!

SUNDAY JUNE 11 – 2:30PM
GRAVEL GRUMBLE RIDE
Meet at Stride Place to bike on gravel roads.
7 km+ ride (distance dependant on conditions).

MONDAY JUNE 12 – 12PM to 1PM
MPI SAFETY PRESENTATION
Portage Campus of Red River College (32 5th St SE). Pat Krawec presenting on “Top 10 Tips for Cycling Commuters.” Bring your own lunch.

MONDAY JUNE 12 – 7PM
PUBLIC ART TOUR
Meet at Splash Island, 1 hour + ride in city, art project planned following the ride.

MONDAY JUNE 12 – 7PM
MOUNTAIN BIKE w. JUNK YARD DOGS CYCLING CLUB
Meet at Garbage Hill. 3 skill levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Must have an off-road bike and helmet.

TUESDAY JUNE 13 – 7PM
RECREATIONAL RIDE
Meet at Stride Place for an hour-long urban ride. All abilities welcome and no one left behind.

WEDNESDAY JUNE 14 – 6PM to 8PM
FAMILY COOKIE RIDE
Starting point, water and washroom stations: École Crescentview School, Fort La Reine School, Yellowquill School, and La Verendrye School. Ice cream at La Veredrye School and Island Park. Families begin at their neighbourhood school, choose a route and appropriate distance. Check in at school stations for a homemade cookie made by Girl Guides of Portage and the Family Resource Centre. Parents are encouraged to use the various bike/walking paths. Map provided.

WEDNESDAY JUNE 14 – 7PM
HISTORICAL BIKE TOUR
Meeting point: Off the Top barber shop (230 Sask. Ave.). An hour-long ride with significant historical places of Portage la Prairie highlighted.

WEDNESDAY JUNE 14 – 6PM to 9PM
PUBLIC OPEN SHOP
Learn to fix your bike, or pick out a shop bike to work on as a project. The Greasy Chain (formerly Portage Community Bicycle Repair Shop). Fisher Ave and 1st St NW. Donations encouraged.

THURSDAY JUNE 15 – 6PM
CYCLING GRUB CRAWL
Meet at Splash Island parking lot (see ticket for routes/map). Tickets $25.00 (available at Portage la Prairie Regional Library) plus money for ice cream (optional) at Northside Market convenience store on 8th St NW. Cycle the designated route (18 km) or create your own as you stop along the way to enjoy a light meal at each of the following locations: Tornado’s Restaurant and Lounge, Café on Prince, and Northside Market.

FRIDAY JUNE 16
BIKE TO SCHOOL DAY
All schools in the Portage la PrairieSchool Division and Westpark School are encouraged to bike to school and register to win your school a great prize!

Hosted by Portage la Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce. We urge employers to encourage their employees to bike to work! The benefits are far reaching. People who bike to work quote benefits of being less stressed, more relaxed and rejuvenated, and experiencing an increased sense of well-being.
