Manitoba may be is considering a ban on cosmetic pesticides like WeedEx and RoundUp that close to 50% of us use to kill off weeds and bugs. That’s the second highest rate in the country!
We are one of only 4 provinces with no pesticide ban and some of those provinces are also considering a ban. With a strong connection to human health, some would consider us to be behind the times.
Do we really need chemical pesticides to keep our lawns “green?” Help us to bust this myth!
I agree that people use too many chemicals to try to control weeds but what is the alternative? People need to know what other methods are effective to destroy and/or control weeds in our yards. Our summers are too short so we want to enjoy our yards and have nice green grass. You need to educate people by putting out information for better results. Thanks.
While I tend to agree herbicides are very much overused, I wonder if most people are even using them correctly. I’m not convinced that a lot of people don’t misuse the product by either over applying per application or applying too frequently. Furthermore, the lawn care companies really need to post what chemicals they are using in very large signs and not by using some trade name like “ECO-whatever”. They need to be made to post the active ingredient(s).
Personally I think the use of soluble synthetic fertilizers is more troublesome than herbicides. Once again, most people overuse the product and much of it will run off, and in Manitoba, most of that run-off will end up in the big lakes.
