On Thursday, February 20th, Green Action Centre celebrated our four decade milestone together with past and current staff, members and board. It was an evening of celebration, reflection, and consideration of the next forty years ahead.

We were pleased to see so many faces, old and new, of the people who have made Green Action Centre what it is today. Last Thursday, we were joined by Manitoba’s Minister for the Environment and Climate Change, Mike Moyes, as well as City Councilor for Waverley West and Acting Deputy Mayor, Janice Lukes.

From our beginnings in 1985, Green Action Centre has a long list of accomplishments to be proud of. Advocacy in city and provincial policy helped us see greener changes take place over the last four decades. Educational programming in classrooms and within communities allowed for growth in understanding the idea of ‘living green & living well’, which has become a driving force behind the work we do. A common theme shared over the course of the evening was that Green Action Centre truly has, and continues to make a difference in the lives of Manitobans across the province through our work; advocating for safer & healthier communities, helping families and individuals make greener choices, and empowering Manitobans to care for the environment we reside in.
Executive Director Josep Seras-Gubert and President of the Board David Klein both spoke about looking ahead to the future of our work with hope; a sentiment echoed by Minister Moyes. Event attendees listened to past staff and board of Green Action Centre reminisce about their time and the work of Green Action Centre over the years. Guests mingled over food and drinks, perusing the 40 Years of Milestones timeline, illustrating the many landmarks of our organization, and the names of staff and board members over the years.

We’re grateful to everyone who joined us last week for such a momentous occasion! Thank you to the Leftovers Foundation for ensuring all leftover food from the event went to where it was needed most and ensuring the diversion of food waste from landfills. Cheers to the next forty years ahead – we can’t wait to see what’s in store for the future of Green Action Centre!
