Intended for First Nation classrooms, this presentation provides a basic understanding of Traditional Ecological Knowledge in relation to Indigenous worldviews – how we are connected with the planet and how we must find a harmonious balance with our environment for the sake of the next seven generations. This includes actions students can take at home, in school, or within their community. Examples will explore what other schools in First Nation communities around Manitoba are doing to reduce their impact on Mother Earth.

The amount of waste in Manitoba landfills that could have been composted is 40%. If everyone in Manitoba committed to composting, we could divert almost half of the waste that ends up in landfills!

Canadians toss over 3 million tonnes of plastic every year - 47% of which is single use plastic packaging for food, beverage and personal care items. Imagine if we all said no to single-use plastic packaging - we could cut Canada's plastic waste in half!

Transportation in Manitoba, including road, rail, marine, air and off-road vehicles, is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions associated with climate change. It accounts for 37% of GHG emissions in our province.
