Another record year for Cycle of Giving!

The 4th annual Cycle of Giving took place on December 6 and 7 at Orioles Commmunity Centre. In 2013 volunteers reconditioned 315 bicycles for distribution to Winnipeg children. 2014 was another record year with a total of 366 bikes built and ready to make some holiday dreams come true. The bikes were refurbished, cleaned, inspected, and now will be passed on to youth service organizations for distribution. The children that receive these bikes could not hope to own a bike of their own without a program like this and unbelievable volunteer efforts that make it possible.

Hundreds of volunteers came out to once again make the Cycle of Giving a huge success. Bike mechanics, bike enthusiasts, and many others that just wanted to help in anyway that they could to make a Merry Christmas for less fortunate children in Winnipeg. Volunteers worked through a 24 hour period from 12 noon on Saturday to 12 noon on Sunday, some working more than 18 hours straight to make sure that the Cycle of Giving reach another record. Check out this link from Global News to see just what this event looks and feels like.

Special thanks has to go the Pat Krawec, Geoff Heath, and Jordan Justice at The WRENCH for once again organizing this fabulous event. Thanks also has to go to all the volunteers that helped sort and haul the bikes from the Brady Landfill and all those that showed up to create 366 reconditioned bikes for kids.

Although the Cycle of Giving had great success building bikes, The WRENCH still needs to raise more money to help with youth bicycle programming throughout the year. If you can help donations can still be made online or mail a cheque to The WRENCH, 1057 Logan Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 3N8. Please consider a donation to help support this important program in Winnipeg.
