Green Living Resources

Plan(t) your seasonal menu

With the days growing longer and the sun shining brighter, many prairie folk start to dream of summer vegetables and garden planning. Here are some resources that will help you plan(t) your seasonal menu!

If you are interested in growing your own food, and are not sure where to start why not consider a garden planning or seed starting workshop? Check out Sage Garden Herbs, Fort Whyte Alive! Farms and Urban Eatin’ Coop for information. For those wanting to get more indepth, the Harvest Moon Society offers a Permaculture workshop later in the summer months.

There are also some great community events that you can check out too – like Seedy Saturday and Gardening Saturday; and the annual Growing Local Conference put on by Food Matters Manitoba.

For those without a green thumb, but wanting to eat delicious, locally grown and seasonal food, why not consider purchasing a share in a local Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) farm?

A list of Manitoba CSA’s can be found in the Local Produce Guide put out by the Province of Manitoba. The guide also has a list and map of Farmers’ Markets and U-pick farms across the Province.

Finally, when nearing the end of the season, there are many food preservation workshops you can take! Keep checking out the Green Action Centre list of upcoming events for more information.
