Community Action Network of Altona is hosting an Earth Day Event! Green Action Centre will be presenting on the basics of backyard composting.
So much to learn and do. Admission is free. Many prizes to be won. Come on out and meet your neighbours and friends while learning about how to better care for our planet.

Workshops include:
Composting – Learn how to compost your food scraps and yard waste in your own backyard. Prize – Stainless steel kitchen compost pail
Birding – Discover some of the birds that make Altona their home with resident birding expert Al Schritt. Wear your walking shoes. Prize – Birding book.
Bicycle tune up – come and talk to your local bike experts from Back Alley Cycle about how to keep your bike in great shape to keep you on the road or help you find a great new bike for the summer.
Altona Community Garden – Walk across the street (east of the curling club) to the garden and find out what’s new this year and/or to register for your garden plot. Prize – free garden plot.
Bat Houses – Learn how to make your own bat house and attract these mosquito-eating friends to your yard. Prize – Bat house.
Seed sharing – Seeds and diversity, seed saving information, seed sharing and seed stories. If you have seeds to share, please bring them but it is not necessary for attending the workshop. Prize – Seed Saving book.
Organic Lawn Care – Learn how to care for your lawn without using harmful chemicals. Prize – Gardening gloves.
Boomerang bags – Check out what Boomerang Bags is up to in their efforts to reduce our reliance on plastic bags. You may even catch a glimpse of the Bag Monster! Prize – Reusable grocery bag.
